Bio
Alexandra McArthur is a dynamic vocalist, storyteller, and educator based in Buffalo, New York. Known for her warm, soulful tone and emotionally resonant performances, she brings a deeply expressive and genre-spanning approach to her work, moving fluidly between jazz, classical, and musical theatre traditions.
A four-time winner of the JazzBuffalo Poll for Female Vocalist of the Year (2018, 2021, 2022, 2023), McArthur has been a vibrant presence in Western New York’s music scene for over a decade. She has performed at leading venues and cultural institutions throughout the region and is a frequent presence at major festivals including the Lewiston Jazz Festival and Ellicottville Jazz & Blues Festival.
A sought-after collaborator, McArthur works regularly with an exceptional network of musicians, including drummer and composer Dr. John Bacon, pianist George Caldwell, pianist Harrison Graser, guitarist Grace Lougen, guitarist Bob Sneider, saxophonist & composer Ellen Pieroni, and artists within the Buffalo Jazz Collective. She is also a vocalist and percussionist with the Latin roots ensemble Guabàza, led by Michael Ruopoli.
Career highlights include her ongoing collaborations with Dr. John Bacon around the city of Buffalo, her work as a concert host and featured vocalist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s Education Program, and her portrayal of Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill with George Caldwell. She was featured at the Virginia Arts Festival and continues to develop original work as both a performer and composer.
In addition to her performance career, McArthur is a dedicated educator. She serves as a part-time music teacher at Cardinal O’Hara High School and works as an Education Concert Host with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Through workshops, masterclasses, and private instruction, she is committed to fostering creativity, confidence, and authentic artistic expression in the next generation of musicians and artists.
