Alexandra McArthur is a vocalist, storyteller, composer, and educator based in Buffalo. Known for her warm, soulful tone and emotionally resonant performances, she brings a deeply expressive and genre-spanning approach to her work, moving fluidly between jazz, classical, folk traditions, and musical theatre. Rooted in a belief that music is both an artistic and spiritual practice, McArthur approaches performance as a space for connection, healing, presence, and honest storytelling.
A four-time winner of the JazzBuffalo Poll for Female Vocalist of the Year (2018, 2021, 2022, 2023), McArthur has been a vibrant presence in Western New York’s music scene for over a decade. She has appeared at leading venues and cultural institutions throughout the region and is a frequent featured artist at festivals including the Queen City Jazz Festival, Lewiston Jazz Festival, Ellicotville Blues & Ja .
A sought-after collaborator, McArthur works regularly with an exceptional network of musicians, including John Bacon, George Caldwell, Harrison Graser, Grace Lougen, Bob Sneider, Adam Bronstein, and Ellen Pieroni, as well as artists within the Buffalo Jazz Collective, and local roc. She is also a vocalist and percussionist with the Latin roots ensemble Guabàza, led by Michael Ruopoli.
Career highlights include her ongoing collaborations with Dr. John Bacon, her work as a concert host and featured vocalist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Education Program, and her portrayal of Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill alongside George Caldwell. She was also featured at the Virginia Arts Festival and continues to develop original work as both a composer and performer, with a growing focus on music centered around healing, transformation, and the shared human experience.
In addition to her performance career, McArthur is a dedicated educator and mentor. She serves as a part-time music teacher at Cardinal O’Hara High School and works as an Education Concert Host with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Through workshops, masterclasses, and private instruction, she is committed to nurturing creativity, confidence, curiosity, and authentic artistic expression in the next generation of artists.
